July 20, 2008: Eastern Poker Tour Championship in New England to Feature Massachusetts Professional Poker Player Bernard Lee as Lead Commentator - Show to air this summer on Comcast SportsNet

BOSTON, Mass. - New England's top professional poker player Bernard Lee is lead commentator of the Eastern Poker Tour (EPT) Championship Tournament, a free bi-annual regional competition of pub poker league players vying for a seat at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) that will air this summer on Comcast SportsNet. EPT awards more than $400,000 in prizes annually.

The EPT Tournament of Champions will be televised for 12 weeks and feature action from the final table event held this past January. Andre Perreira of Hopedale, Mass. won the event after playing a six-hour final table. He qualified for his seat at Pinz Bowling in Milford, Mass.

The EPT show premiered at 11 p.m. June 16 and will run at that time every other Tuesday through Sept. 1. On opposite weeks, starting June 23, it will air at midnight.

Winners of each Tournament of Champions, held every six months, win a prize package of 12,000 and go on to represent the EPT at the WSOP, the world’s largest poker stage with a prize pool of more than $65 million.

The next Tournament of Champions will take place in January, 2010. The tournament will award $30,000 to the top players, including a $12,000 prize package and seat at the next WSOP for the top finisher. Players qualify for the Tournament of Champions by winning one free local poker tournament held at bars and restaurants all over Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The EPT lead commentator, Lee, is a Wayland resident who catapulted into the poker spotlight after he finished 13th in the 2005 WSOP and became the top New England finisher. Lee has won more than $1.3 million and three titles on the tournament circuit.

Lee hosts The Bernard Lee Poker Show on 1510 AM The Zone and Rounder’s Radio (www.roundersradio.com), is an instructor for the well-known WSOP Academy, a poker commentator, and poker columnist for the Boston Herald and ESPN.com, among other media outlets. Lee has released two books, The Final Table, Volume I and Volume II, which are compilations of his Sunday Boston Herald poker columns of the same name.

Lee's most recent tournament finish was 23rd place this January in the WPT Southern Poker Championship Main Event at Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Miss. In June and July, Lee will compete in the 2009 WSOP.
